Season of Gratitude

Updated: Dec 4, 2025

Dear DLUMC Family,

As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, let’s take a moment to pause and reflect on the abundant blessings in our lives. This is a time to gather with family and friends, to express gratitude for the love that surrounds us, and to recognize the grace of God in our daily lives. Thanksgiving invites us to remember the importance of community, generosity, and thankfulness for both the big and small gifts we receive.

In this season of gratitude, we must also remember those among us who are facing difficult times. In light of the turbulence in our country, many are struggling with uncertainty, loss, and hardship. Let us hold them in our hearts and prayers, extending our support and compassion. As we give thanks for our blessings, may we also be inspired to reach out to those in need, offering a listening ear, a helping hand, or simply a word of encouragement. Whether through acts of kindness, donations, or simply sharing a meal, we have the opportunity to embody the love of Christ in our actions this season.

As we celebrate Thanksgiving, we also look forward to the Advent season, a time of preparation and anticipation for the coming of our Lord. Advent begins on November 30, and we invite you to join us in this sacred journey. We will be lighting the Advent candles, reflecting on the themes of hope, peace, joy, and love.

I will also begin a parish-wide Advent study on that first Sunday of Advent entitled, Heaven and Earth: Advent and the Incarnation. This study will kick off at Hawley UMC, and then rotate each week between Hawley and DLUMC. We will begin each Sunday at 12:30 pm. You are invited to attend each week, or as many weeks as you are able.  I have books available that will be a part of study, so if you are interested please let me know and I can get you one.

So, as we prepare our hearts for the celebration of Christ’s birth, let us walk this path together, encouraging one another in faith and fellowship.

Wishing you a blessed Thanksgiving filled with love and gratitude.

In Christ’s love,

Pastor Leslie
